‘A head for figures and a heart for others’; this is often used to describe David Hoe. A newly-minted educator and recent Economics (Honours) graduate from the National University of Singapore (NUS), David took a route less travelled. David is fully aware that his path to his dream of becoming an educator was not forged by his sheer effort alone; but by standing on the shoulders of the many giants. In 2015, he was featured as one of Singapore’s everyday heroes during the National Day celebration and was awarded the JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World in 2016. Beyond his day-to-day job as an educator, he is the founder of a few social empowerment programmes. One of these programmes is I Am Talented which seeks to help every youth to discover their talents beyond the traditional academic path. He lives by the philosophy of paying it forward.
